About Us

We are a recreational hockey league open to boys and girls (ages 5 to 16) who want to play non-contact hockey while developing their skills. Our season runs October to March with a year end tournament. There is one practice and one game (Saturdays) per week. Games are played on both indoor and outdoor ice throughout the season.

The Cochrane Cougars Recreational Hockey League is associated with the Foothills Recreational Hockey League (FRHL), which is comprised of the communities of Black Diamond/Turner Valley, Canmore, Bragg Creek, Millarville, and Priddis. We are insured through Hockey Alberta Pond Hockey.

The Cougars adhere to the FRHL vision for Recreational Hockey which strives to give boys and girls in the community, with widely varying hockey abilities, an equal opportunity to enjoy hockey in a non-contact, less structured and more flexible environment, all the while developing skills. The spirit of the Foothills Recreational Hockey League is to have fun, support each other in playing hockey, and develop good sportsmanship skills. The family friendly structure allows participants and families who may not wish to invest the time or finances needed for the minor hockey system, a chance to still enjoy the game.
